WINDOWS PC
Operating system: Windows 95, 98, ME, or XP.
The programs run on PCs equipped with a Pentium class processor.
RAM: 16 MB of RAM (excluding what is needed for the operating system). Display resolution: at least 800 x 600 pixels, 16 bit (or better) colour ("High colour"). Because of the slow speed it is not advisable to run the program on a PC equipped with a 66 MHz 486 processor.
When installing a CD, a message box may appear, saying that it will not work correctly with XP. However, if you ignore the message and continue the installation, the CD usually functions correctly. Occasionally, a product will not work with XP, and it appears that this is due to a local configuration problem with a video or sound card. If this happens, and our support team cannot help you to get the CD to function correctly, you are entitled to a full refund.
The unique ETI Linnaeus software has not been thoroughly tested on networked systems of Windows NT or 2000. Because of the many possible network configurations, we do not guarantee its performance on networks.
The modules in the Beating the Biology Book series use interactive multimedia software developed especially for the series. They can be networked.

CD-ROM PLATFORMS
Some ETI CD-ROMs are hybrids and run on either Windows or Macintosh systems. Some products have two versions, one for Windows, one for Macintosh. And some were produced only in Windows versions. Please check the product specifications carefully so that you order the appropriate version for your system.
DVD FORMATS
There are two mutually incompatible television systems: 525/60 (NTSC) or 625/50 (PAL/SECAM). Therefore, there are two kinds of DVDs: "NTSC DVDs" and "PAL DVDs." Some players only play NTSC discs, others play PAL and NTSC discs. Discs are also coded for different regions of the world. NTSC is the TV format used in Canada, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan, United States, and other countries. PAL is the TV format used in most of Europe, most of Africa, China, India, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, North Korea, and other countries. (See the chart at http://kropla.com/tv.htm for a complete list.). Both formats will play on a computer with a DVD player. Most PAL DVD players will also play an NTSC disc. However, most NTSC players can't play PAL discs. And a DVD-ROM requires a computer with a DVD player, as it is interactive. |
