The mining flies are a highly diverse dipteran family of exclusively phytophagous species. The world fauna consists of about 2,750 species. A number of species are of particular importance, especially Liriomyza and Ophiomyia species. This unique CD-ROM presents an up-to-date treatment of the Agromyzidae of greatest economic and quarantine importance worldwide.

The multimedia databases hold detailed, illustrated information on 117 of the most frequently encountered species. The information includes diagnoses of the male terminalia, host plants, biology and ecology, distribution, damage symptoms and economic impact. An index to about 130 plant taxa provides a list of the agromyzid species recorded from each host plant. Numerous colour digital images and taxonomic illustrations (many of which are out of print), complete this information system.

To help users who are not familiar with this group, the morphology and biology of Agromyzidae are outlined, together with techniques for their collection and preservation and preparation of male genitalia. Fast and easy access to the databases is provided by an easy-to-use, IdentifyIt matrix key, and by a powerful search engine. A hyperlinked, illustrated glossary to over 180 specialist terms and a database of about 430 literature references are part of the system.

This authoritative information system is intended to provide a single resource to enable entomologists working in agriculture, horticulture and plant quarantine agencies to identify the most economically important agromyzid species.
