Australian Orchid Genera is a complete information and identification system for Australian orchids. It has been designed for many users, from professional researchers to those with basic plant knowledge and a love of orchids.
This CD contains over 80 images of members of the Orchidaceae from Britain and Europe. There are over 135 megabytes of images, plus an Orchid screensaver and demo versions of Pisces software. The orchid flora of New Guinea is one of the richest in the world, with some 2500 species in about 130 genera. This CD-ROM presents the first comprehensive overview of all the genera currently known to occur in New Guinea, supplemented with a checklist of all the species. Dendrobium is horticulturally the most significant orchid genus of New Guinea. Together with the three closely related genera Cadetia, Diplocaulobium, and Flickingeria it is the subject of this CD-ROM, which was written and compiled by Mr. André Schuiteman and Dr. Ed de Vogel of the Nationaal Herbarium Nederland, Leiden branch (formerly known as the Rijksherbarium), in co-operation with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh. The Philippines have a unique and rich orchid flora of almost 1000 species, of which about 74% are found nowhere else in the world. This CD-ROM presents an overview with descriptions of the 137 genera and provides a checklist of all species. This CD-ROM treats 19 genera (Kuhlhasseltia to Ophioglossella) with nearly 400 species. Among the major genera are Liparis, Malaxis, Mediocalcar, Oberonia, and Octarrhena. As in previous volumes in this acclaimed CD-ROM series on orchids of New Guinea, there are contributions from leading botanical institutes, including the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, the Herbarium Bogoriense, Bogor, and the National Capital Botanic Garden, Port Moresby, as well as from many well-known photographers.
This CD-ROM reflects the state of the art in our expertise of another portion of the incredibly rich orchid flora of New Guinea. It contains more than 2000 images, 643 distribution maps, 60 generic descriptions, and full treatments of 673 species and varieties belonging to the orchid genera Acanthephippium to Hymenorchis . Not included are the genera Dendrobium and Bulbophyllum and their allies. The genus Cattlya is one of the better known in all the family Orchidaceae and for many the larger-flowered species and hybrids are the 'real' orchids.
More than 9,000 photos cover over 135 genera and more than 1,100 species. The photos, which can be viewed in a slide show format, show plants, flower branches, flowers and details of flowers. This CD-ROM shows the basic different habitats in the Brazilian Amazon and the most interesting or showy orchids to be found there. Orchid lovers can enjoy a program containing more than 3000 color photographs with habitats, maps and orchid species of Peru.
